Casström Fixed Blade Knife Swedish Forest, Curly Birch + Firesteel

This great knife is built as a multipurpose knife for hunting, bushcraft and general use in the great outdoors. The blade is about 10 cm long and made of about 3.8 mm thick Swedish Sandvik 14C28N stainless knife steel and heat-treated to achieve a hardness of 57-59 HRC. It has a shaving-sharp flat Scandinavian grind and a satin finish. This steel, in combination with the grind, makes for a knife which is very strong, yet very easy to sharpen and able to take a great edge.

The handle is made of curly birch. The wood has been treated with a traditional Scandinavian linseed oil-based varnish. There are black liners between the handle scales and the steel to enhance durability over time.

The knife comes with a sturdy welted sheath made of cognac brown, 3 mm thick vegetable-tanned full-grain leather. The sheath features an extra wide belt loop, a drain hole, a lanyard hole and - for this particular model - a firesteel holder and firesteel with matching handle.

About the steel: 14C28N steel is Sandvik's most recently developed product in its popular series of knife steel. The optimized composition creates a steel with a unique combination of excellent edge holding features (stability, sharpenability and sharpness), high hardness and high corrosion resistance. This steel has the ability to be heat-treated, so that the wear resistance is improved over prior steel types, without affecting the microstructure. It is therefore relatively easy to sharpen the knife, while the edge stability in terms of chipping and edge rolling still remains very good.
